It was only in April of this year that we reported on the success of the gaming group Entain. Now the listed company wants to expand its social commitment. The children’s charity “Chance for Childhood” is to be supported through the company’s own Entain Foundation. In addition to bwin, the company’s brands also include PartyPoker, Ladbrokes and Sportingbet.
Entain is planning educational initiatives for street children
As Entain announced a few days ago, the charity project “Chance for Childhood” will be supported in Ghana in the future. The aim is to carry out an educational initiative with street children. The situation on site is dramatic: In the Ghanaian capital Accra alone, there are currently an estimated 61,500 children on the streets. Around a third of all local children do not go to school, so they have no chance of an education.
Even among children between the ages of five and seven, the proportion of those who are already in work is around 20 percent. The Entain Foundation wants to counteract this trend and ensure the best possible education on site.
Pilot project “Change the first 1,000 Days” planned
In cooperation with the children’s charity “Chance of Childhood”, the gaming company Entain now wants to launch a pilot project called “Change the first 1,000 Days”. The aim of the project is to offer several hundred children on the streets of Ghana a perspective. Specifically, it is planned to give 600 street children in the capital Accra access to early childhood education. Unfortunately, we were unable to find out what budget was made available for this in the course of our research.
For a long time, the Children’s Fund has publicly denounced the unworthy conditions in the development of many children in Africa. According to this, the majority of homeless children are girls from rural areas. Many children in the country have no choice but to work as a so-called head carrier. The children have to carry heavy objects on their heads – sometimes over a longer distance.
Together with the Entain Foundation, the children’s aid organization now wants to improve local conditions. In a first step, the capacities of teachers and supervisors in ten state kindergartens in Accra are to be increased noticeably. Entain himself emphasized once again that it wanted to make a contribution to society with its non-profit organization.
Entain (formerly GVC Holdings) is an international sports betting and gaming company. The company was founded under a different name in 2004. The company’s headquarters are on the Isle of Man. Most recently, Entain generated sales of over 3.5 billion euros in 2019. The group of companies employs a total of more than 2,800 people at locations around the world.
Further involvement of Entain planned
In a recent press release, the British gaming company also announced that it wanted to take more care of player protection in Germany. The global corporation is planning investments worth millions in the area of responsible gaming. The financial resources required for this are also to be provided by the Entain Foundation. Only a few weeks ago we asked ourselves in a guidebook how responsible gaming can work. Entain received its first German licenses for its brands bwin, Sportingbet and Gamebookers in October last year.
Entain has already drawn attention to itself several times in the past through social engagement. Most recently, the renowned gambling company donated an amount of 100,000 pounds to help fight the corona pandemic in India. We also reported in our article “GambleAware: Just Change for Gambling Aid?” That Entain is one of the most generous donors in the field of gambling addiction. One can only hope that the Entain Foundation will support the children’s charity “Chance for Childhood” as far beyond the pilot project as possible.
